How to Help Your Child Prepare for an Exam

If you have ever asked your child about their lessons, you have probably realized that what they are learning today is far more complex than what you learned at school. However, this doesn't mean that you can't help them study for a test or a quiz. To help you get started, The Tutoring Center, Houston TX has some easy to follow tips to share.

Create a Supportive Space

Studying on the couch with the TV on does not make for a productive study session. Instead, find a quiet and secluded space around your home and designate it as your child's study space. Include items such as a table, chair, necessary stationery items, and even motivational posters. Once established, make a rule for yourself and other members in your home where nobody is allowed to enter this space while your student is studying.

Clean up Their Notes

Just because you might not understand what's written, you can easily identify where your child is struggling and help them out. Sit down with your student and look through their notebooks. Look for notes which have been written, crossed out, and then written again. This is a good indicator that the lesson proved to be a challenge. Once you have identified these, help them to create a separate 'quiz revision notebook' which includes these challenging lessons. With this method, students can focus more of their time on the lessons they struggle with the most, instead of reviewing information they are already comfortable with.

Set Aside Time

Allocate a set period of the day for your child to study and make sure they stick to it. While they might not like the idea of coming home and studying further, those sessions are what will help. Create a recurring time for your student to study each day. If it helps, consider small rewards such as cooking their favorite dinner if they complete their homework or study.

Give Them the Extra Help They Need With Tutoring Classes

If their challenge is more around the subjects and lessons and you aren't able to assist, speak with a learning professional who can. Contact The Tutoring Center, Houston TX at (832) 571-8224 and ask about how subject focused one-on-one tutoring classes can provide the assistance your child needs to excel during their school years.
